We’ve always like Silver Diner as a family restaurant because the service is always friendly, the food is consistently good … and they give the kids a spiffy classic car container that holds graham crackers, crayons and the kids menu.
We don’t go often enough though, to warrant signing up the Kids Club, which gets kids 12 and younger a free milkshake on Tuesday night Kids Nights. We happened to go to the Reston location last Tuesday, though, and found out that we’ve been missing out!
Signing up was free and hassle-free; in return we received cool rubber wristbands that you need to bring in on Tuesday nights to get the free milkshake. They had set aside one section of the restaurant as the kids’ side, and in the back, they set up a TV with Dora the Explorer showing, a crafts section where the kids could make foam bookmarks, and an open area where the kids could pop bubbles blowing out of a bubble machine. At about 6 p.m., they broke out the big gun: a pinata, seeing as the theme was Let’s Fiesta. They were going to let the kids break it open with a stick but after some parents expressed concern, they decided to go with the string-pull method.
It’s obviously a great draw for the restaurant, as it was crowded with families that night; it almost felt like a birthday party! Following are the themes for May for Silver Diner’s NoVa locations. Click here for more info.
Fair Oaks
13th – Reading is Fun: Make a book mark to start your summer reading.
20th – Craft Night and Entertainment by Mr. Tim: Watch Mr. Tim do magic tricks and paint a sun catcher.
27th – Superhero Night: Wear your superhero costume and make a mask to match!
Reston
13th – Fairy Tale Night: All Princes, Princesses, Knights, Dragons and Fairies. Come and wear your fairy tale outfit and you will receive a surprise package. We’ll also have some fun and games.
20th – Bingo!!! Bingo Bonanza night at the Diner. Come and join us play Bingo and you’ll win great prizes.
27th – Under the Sea Adventure: Let’s explore all the creatures under the sea. We’ll make a whale out of a flower pot and join our coloring contest to win a prize.
Clarendon, Merrifield & Tysons Corner
13th – April showers bring May flowers: Tonight we will be making charming flower pots to put your May flowers in. As always we will be giving away fun prizes.
20th – Red White and Blue: Come and Celebrate with us in honor of Memorial Day and learn about why we celebrate this holiday. Come decked out in your red white and blue for more chances to win cool prizes. Mr. Don will be here to entertain you.
27th – Beach Blanket Bingo: A few good games of B-I-N-G-O we’ll play, so bring a Beach Blanket or towel to get underway. There will be a winner each game, maybe 1 or maybe 2, but the grand prize could be for you. Mr. Don will be here to entertain you.
Potomac Mills
13th – Face Odyssey Night: Come learn how to face paint from our own Jerry “The Face Odyssey”.
20th – Fun With Science Night: Join us as we learn cool science experiments that you can do your at own house. Magic Allen will be here.
27th – Fire Prevention Night: Come out tonight to meet cool firefighters and see their big fire truck and their trusty fire dog Spot. We will also be doing amazing raffles. Face Odyssey is here tonight.
Springfield
13th – Celebrate Mother’s Day with Pups from “Guiding Eyes for the Blind” & Face Painting: Make a card for Mom, learn about our favorite service dogs and get your face painted.
20th – Parrots with “Wilson Parrot Foundation” & Coloring Contest: Does Polly want a cracker? Nope. Polly wants a milkshake tonight. Really! Come see and donate to our favorite feathered friends and compete in our coloring contest.
27th – Petting Zoo & Pony Rides with “Pony to Go” & Face Painting: We are so lucky they came back again, maybe this time they will bring a rooster or a hen. Ride a pony, and pet your barnyard friends. Bring your camera, to grandma this picture you will want to send!
31st- Springfield Days: “Silver Diner Celebration Station” 12pm – 6pm Springfield Mall Parking lot.
